Today in our series showcasing Stone’s inspirational women for International Women’s Day, we chat with Deanne Bannerman. Deanne is the Operations Manager for Stone Illawarra, and an integral part of the smooth running of this highly successful business.
How did you fall into real estate?
My parents had great family friends that owned a Real Estate Agency and at a young age I remember always being interested in their conversations and thought how great it would be to help people find their dream home. At the age of 17, I decided to join the industry and 20 years later I haven’t looked back.
What do you like about working in real estate?
People, they always make things interesting and ever changing and of course the houses and apartments. What a privilege it is to be invited into someone’s home. I have seen the most amazing properties and I am grateful for the inspiration it gives me for my own home.
What’s been the most challenging part of establishing yourself in your career?
Believing in myself, not limiting myself.
What impact do you think being female has had on the success of your career?
My understanding on the need for compassion and understanding. Ensuring that the team is supported on a personal and professional level and being a mum helps me relate to other mums in the industry.
What would your advice be for a woman looking to embark a career in real estate? Knowledge is powerful. Stay true to yourself and your beliefs. Don’t limit yourself, its hard work, but it is all worth it.
If you had one piece of advice to give your younger self what would it be?
Align yourself with the right brand and surround yourself with people that support and share your visions.
