International Women’s Day is a day that we hold very closely to our hearts at Stone. With a network of incredibly successful women, we love to use this time of year to highlight and share their amazing achievements in the real estate industry. Although we have hundreds of inspirational women as part of our Stone family, we picked a few to tell their story as part of #InternationalWomensDay.
Jill Henry – Principal of Stone Real Estate Lindfield
Jill, thank you for joining us! First off, how did you fall into real estate?
I saw an ad in the local paper for a real estate agent with no experience and I applied, as I had always had an interest in real estate.
Sounds pretty straight forward, what do you like about working in real estate?
Definitely the people I work with and for. I also love the pressure of doing a great job, getting a great price and having everyone happy. All agents have a good healthy ego!
And what’s been the most challenging part of establishing yourself in your career?
I don’t know that I have had the most challenging, I think the hardest thing for all agents establishing themselves, is patience. It doesn’t happen straight away – you have to work hard and be patient.
Patience is a virtue! What impact do you think being female has had on the success of your career?
I have good empathy with my owners, I think I can read the situation well and react accordingly. I think some buyers like these attributes which women generally demonstrate really well.
Absolutely. What would your advice be for a woman looking to embark a career in real estate?
If you are interested in working hard, under pressure, and have a passion for people and real estate, then do it!
And to finish off, if you had one piece of advice to give to your younger self, what would it be?
Buy more real estate when it was affordable!
