We have so many inspirational women as part of our Stone family, all with a different story to tell. Today we feature Maddie Thornton, Business Development Manager for Stone Hunter Valley/ Newcastle.

How did you fall into real estate?

I was working as an executive assistant for the owner of a small business and an opportunity came up as a receptionist with a real estate agency. I felt I had progressed as far as possible at my current job and was looking for a challenge so I applied and got the job!

What do you like about working in real estate?

I like that every day is different, every day challenges and pushes you in a different way. I also love the clients I get to work with, being a part of such a big part of peoples personal journey’s is amazing.

What’s been the most challenging part of establishing yourself in your career?

It’s competitive. Society is all about instant gratification and if you cannot provide this you will not be on the top of any prospective clients list. Being a female, in what has been such a male dominant industry, has had its challenges to.

What impact do you think being female has had on the success of your career?

I think that due to the male dominance in the industry it has made me hungrier to succeed, to help lead by example that we are capable of rivalling any of our counterparts. I also think people warm to me better, meet me more on a personal level and all of my business is done from the heart and the relationship I have with the client.

What would your advice be for a woman looking to embark a career in real estate?

Always go the extra-mile, never become complacent in any aspect of your work or personal life. Always be honest and transparent, and reach out for help and guidance because everyone wants to see you succeed!

If you had one piece of advice to give your younger self what would it be?

Not to dwell or let an outcome that you may not be happy with, occupy to much of your time. Learn from your mistakes and just move on. We are all human and no one is perfect.

Thank you so much Maddie- it has been great reading about your journey and insights!
